Cuttack: Central Zone bundled out East Zone for a paltry 149 to take a vital 29-run first innings lead over their opponents on the penultimate day of their three-day C K Naidu Trophy (under-19) quarter-final match being played at the Barabati Stadium here on Saturday. At close, Central Zone were 45 for no loss in their second knock with openers Sachin Dholpure and Surinder Singh batting on 14 and 26 respectively. After Central Zone were dismissed for 178 in their first innings adding only 20 runs in 78 minutes to the overnight score of 158 for seven, hosts East made a disastrous start losing both the openers Amitabh Chakravarty (9) and Ritesh Jaiswal (2) very cheaply.Middle order batsmen Amir Hasmi(42,4x4), Subit Biswal (20) and skipper Sourashis Lahiri (31,4x4) were the only East players to reach double figures in the face of deadly bowling by off spinner Surinder Singh (5 for 41) and medium pacer Subil Upadhyay (3 for 49). The last five East wickets fell within a span of 37 runs with Surinder spearheading the attack. With only one day's play remaining, Central Zone had virtually made sure of their entry into the semi-finals of the tournament on the basis of their first innings lead. UNI
