Jan 23, 2001, 20:45 Hrs (IST)
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), which would be hosting the N K P Salve Challenger Trophy from February 12 to 16, has sought the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s permission to hold it as day matches, instead of day-night as stipulated by the BCCI.
TNCA Secretary Ashok Khumbat, who attended the Working Committee meeting of the Board at New Delhi on Tuesday, informed BCCI secretary J Y Lele that due to repair of the lights in one of the four towers at the Chepauk stadium and due to maintenance, it was not possible to conduct day-night matches.
"Mr Lele would be conveying the BCCI's decision to me soon," he said. Mr Khumbat said Hero Honda would sponsor the tournament.
