London: Gas and electricity supplier Npower are the new sponsor of England's home cricket Test matches, the England Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Wednesday. Npower have signed a three-year deal worth pounds 11 million ($ 16.12 million) which runs up to and including the summer of 2003. They replace insurers Cornhill, who announced the end of their 23-year sponsorship of home Test matches in 1999 after a dreadful year for English cricket. The new deal starts with the two Test matches against Pakistan in May and continues with the Ashes series against Australia. "All the England players are relishing the prospect of taking part in the first Npower Test series," said England captain Nasser Hussain. His team is currently on a high after consecutive series wins over Zimbabwe, West Indies and Pakistan. "Australia and Pakistan are both top sides with world class players in their ranks and I'm sure that all cricket fans can look forward to an exciting and closely-fought summer of Test cricket." Npower are also one of the sponsors of English soccer's premier league. (c) Reuters Limited. Click here for Restrictions
