New Delhi: Punjab left-hand batsman Dinesh Mongia (208) and all-rounder Reetinder Singh Sodhi (137) crafted superb centuries to help North pile up a mammoth total in the first innings against Central Zone on the second day of the four-day Duleep Trophy match at the Feroze Shah Kotla Stadium here on Friday. At stumps, Central Zone were 81 for one in response to North's 690 for 8 declared with Madhya Pradesh opener J P Yadav (23) and his captain Amay Khurasia (45) remaining unbeaten.Facing a huge aggregate, Central opening batsmen Yadav and Amit Pagnis began their reply on a shaky note as they lost Pagnis (8) in the fourth over when he was caught by wicket-keeper Vijay Dahiya off Jammu speedster Surinder Singh who started the proceedings with Delhi medium-pacer Aashish Nehra. However, Khurasia repaired the damage with his fire-cracking shots as he hit three consecutive boundaries off Surinder to produce 16 runs in his third over. The Madhya Pradesh batsman was also harsh on Punjab off-spinner Harbhajan Singh as he accumulated 17 runs, containing two fours and a six, in his first over.Obviously, the day belonged to Mongia and Sodhi who sparkled with centuries to paint a rosy picture for their team. Resuming at overnight 391 for 4, the duo made 132 runs in the pre-lunch session with Mongia completing his 100 in 225 balls with the help of 16 fours and Sodhi hitting half-century which included six boundaries.UNI
