Agartala: Brilliant batting by skipper Shiv Sundar Das (79 off 183 balls) and Deep Dasgupta(32) helped East Zone defeat fancied South Zone by four wickets in the penultimate day of the four-day Duleep Trophy league match at the MBB stadium on Saturday.East Zone earned 13 points from three matches while South Zone gained eight points from equal number of matches. Following this victory, East Zone came back into reckoning to lift the coveted Trophy.Needing 96 runs to win with eight wickets in hand, East Zone resumed their play at 71 for two. The hosts scored 170 losing six wickets in the second innings and won the match within five minutes after the lunch.Following yesterday's devastating bowling by East Zone spinner Sukhvinder Singh, who scalped six wickets conceding 57 runs and medium pacer Debashish Mohanty's haul of four wickets, the hosts were able to quickly wrap up the innings. Bengal's Deep DasGupta (32) and his Assam partner Sukhvinder Singh (22) remained not out when the East Zone wrested victory from South Zone led by Rahul Dravid. UNI
