Johannesburg: South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes' famous diving run outs will now be recognised all over the world with a stamp that has been released this week. The South African Post Office released the stamp that features Rhodes' bust-size portrait in a suit and tie next to a drawing of him in full flight as he launches into one of his catches. The stamp is one in a series of ten issued to mark South Africa's sporting achievements in recent years. Rhodes is the only cricketer in the series. The other stamps feature Francois Pienaar, who captained South Africa to victory in the Rugby World Cup in 1995, Olympic gold medallist swimmer Penny Heyns, football captain Lucas Radebe, golfer Ernie Els, swimmer Terence Parkin and athletics star Hezekiel Sepeng.Rhodes' stamp is to be used as a promotional tool for the 2003 World Cup that is being hosted by South Africa. A sheet that includes the Rhodes stamps of one Rand and forty cents each (standard tariff for an ordinary letter posted to a local address in South Africa) as well as tear-off pictures of other South African international cricketers will be on sale for the rest of this year.Ali Bacher, director of the 2003 World Cup, said Rhodes had refused to accept payment or royalties for the use of his image on the stamps. "He considered it to be such a great honor that he felt money should not come into it at all," Bacher said.India Abroad News Service
