Mumbai: Sony television on Thursday announced that it will contract Indian and international and also budding cricketers to play ''made for television'' cricket matches later in 2001.Sony chief executive officer Kunal Dasgupta told newsmen that the format will be assisted with latest available technology and the unique feature will be substitution in the line of hockey and football and it will be done by popular choice.Dasgupta was very secretive about revealing names of the players, their fees and also the format and explained that in the competitive world till the scheme is ready to be launched it was not advisable to present it. However, it is likely to be a sort of sports soap opera with fans expressing their request for certain players inclusion even on telephone with all sorts of American type of gimmicks thrown in only to cash in on the cricket madness, which engulfs this country.But Dasgupta was not certain about its success and left it on public. He said since it was not official cricket there was no need to consult the board of control for cricket in India. Sony cricket will be played about 15 days in a year in the off-season.UNI
