Chennai: Left-hander Hemant Kumar's unbeaten 108 and his two century partnerships helped Tamil Nadu to recover to 287 losing three wickets at stumps on the first day of the Ranji Trophy Cricket Championship pre-quarter final match against Delhi at the IIT Chemplast ground on Saturday.Hemant Kumar, who came in after Tamil Nadu was reduced to 74 for two in 20.2 overs, took the Delhi bowling attack by its scruff. Stroking with aplomb, Hemant, batting on 108 (285 minutes, 202 balls, with a six and 12 fours), notched up his second successive century in this championship. He had scored a ton in his debut game against Kerala in the last match of the league phase.Hemant was also involved in an unbroken 107-run partnership for the fourth wicket in 47.3 overs with J R Madanagopal, who is at the crease with 44 (120 minutes, 87 balls, with one six and three fours). The Delhi off spinners Harminder Chowdhury and Virender Shewag failed to gain any purchase out of a good batting strip. Only left-arm medium pacer Amit Suman was able to hustle the batsmen a bit.UNI
