Mohali: Punjab on Monday entered the quarterfinals of the Ranji Trophy after defeating Rajasthan by an innings and 12 runs at the PCA stadium. Rajasthan was all out for 306 in the second innings which they began on Sunday after conceding a first innings deficit of 318 runs. Punjab young spinner Babloo Kumar's haul of five wickets for 48 runsfoiled the visitors attempt of avoiding an innings defeat. He clean bowled Rajasthan captain G Khoda and went on a wicket taking spree, hooking R Kanwat (88), N Doru (14), Sanjeev Sharma (37) and M Aslam (4). Another successful Punjab bowler was Sanwal who took three wickets to enable his team win the quarterfinal berth. He clean bowled Rajasthan hope S Bhatia (53), P K Krishnakumar (16) and D P Singh for a duck. Reetinder Sodhi and Gagandeep Singh took a wicket each.
