Dhaka: Bangladesh's new cricket coach Trevor Chappell on Thursday said his aim was to guide the side to a respectable position in the next World Cup.''Hopefully we can perform well in South Africa in 2002,'' he told a news conference. Chappell agreed terms with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to coach the side or one year under a renewable contract. Last year, Bangladesh became the 10th Test playing nation following World Cup One-day victories over Pakistan and Scotland in 1999. The country lost its maiden Test against India in Dhaka last November.Chappell said he would be paying particular attention to bringing the side's fielding up to international standards before the next World Cup. Younger brother of Ian and Greg Chappell, Trevor played three Tests and 20 One-day Internationals for Australia from 1980 to 1983.Appointed on Wednesday, Chappell replaced South African all-rounder Eddie Barlow who stepped down last year after suffering a brain haemorrhage. His immediate task was to coach the team for two Tests and three One-day matches in Zimbabwe next month, BCB officials said.(c) Reuters Limited.
