Vadodara: Baroda won the Ranji Trophy quarter-final on Sunday defeating Tamil Nadu by 161 runs on the penultimate day of five-day match being played at the Gujarat State Fertilizer Corporation (GSFC) ground.Tamil Nadu chasing a target of 323 runs collapsed after an overnight 50 for three to paltry total of 162 runs just after the lunch break. Baroda now meet the winners of match between Orissa and Madhya Pradesh in the semi-finals.Resuming the day, the unfinished pair of Hemant Kumar and T Kumaran was broken with Kumaran being caught by Mongia off R Patel at three, without adding to the overnight score. After adding five runs to team's total new comer R Paul was sent back to the pavilion by Bhoite for an individual score of four runs. Hemant Kumar gave a good fight and contributed 56 runs in 149 balls with five log hits. Madangopal with 45 runs gave good support, however, no other batsmen could reach the double figures.Fine spell of R Patel, who bagged four wickets for 47 runs in 17.2 overs, was ably supported by A Bhoite and Buch who took three wickets each.UNI
