Cape Town: H D Ackerman jumped with joy here when he learnt hewould captain the South African 'A' side that will tour India in August. But that was just one of three good tidings he received during the weekend. The provincial player also received the Supersport Cricket Trophy and a check for 20,000 Rands after being named Cavalier of the Season.Ackerman said news of his captaincy was the best of the three. He was left out of the national team in 1988 after three successive years and was glad to be able to get back in again. National selectors seem to have recognised his skills as a middle order batsman, which also won him the local awards.Four of Ackerman's teammates in the Western Province side will join him in India. They are Ashwell Prince (middle order batsman), Graeme Smith (opener), Thami Tsolekile (wicket-keeper) and Claude Henderson (left-arm spinner).A South African Indian who has lately been showing great form on the field, Goolam Bodi of Kwazulu Natal Province, has also been selected. Bodi has won accolades from local commentators for his spin bowling and his batting prowess as an opener. The team: H D Ackerman (captain), Justin Ontong (vice-captain), Graeme Smith, Jacques Rudolph, Martin van Jaarsveld, Jon Kent, Ashwell Prince, Thami Tsolekile, Goolam Bodi, Claude Henderson, Charl Langeveldt, Andre Nel, Victor Mpitsang and Garnett Kruger.India Abroad News Service
