New Delhi: The sprawling lawns of J&K House in the capital were lit by floating candles in huge earthen pots, against the backdrop of a luminescent bungalow.Yellow lights twinkled amid trees and heady jasmine fragrance filled the air. It was a stage set for a fairy tale wedding where an Indian celebrity tied the knot with his long time sweetheart.Former cricket star Ajay Jadeja married Aditi Jaitley, daughter of former Samata Party chief Jaya Jaitley, on Friday at a glittering ceremony attended by over 1,000 guests.According to The Hindustan Times, the crme de la crme who descended at the wedding didn't allow the Tehelka tapes, which have discredited Jaya Jaitley, to cast a shadow on the marriage. The more prominent among the high profile list included Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha, former defence minister George Fernandes, Union ministers Omar Abdullah, Ram Vilas Paswan and Arun Jaitley. Also included were former cricketers Kapil Dev, Chetan Sharma, Atul Wassan and Kirti Azad, industrialist Gautam Singhania, and U S Ambassador to India Richard Celeste and his wife Jacqueline Lundquist.Jaya Jaitley's former husband Ashok Jaitley, principal secretary to the Jammu and Kashmir government, was also present. But, undoubtedly, the stunner in the show was film actress Madhuri Dixit, who sported a maroon sari with a bouquet of gladioli in hand. "Aditi and Ajay are good friends of mine, which is why I've flown in from Mumbai for their wedding," Dixit was quoted as saying. The area outside J&K House was swarming with reporters, but for people trying to gatecrash, the security did its job well. In fact, guests were required to deposit their cell phones at the gate and have their gifts checked. One of Jadeja's friends stood outside with a paper that carried the guest list. The gates were closed after the "baraat" (groom's entourage) arrived in a line of cars and about 200 policemen shooed away gatecrashers. But while chaos reigned outside, inside the bride and the groom held center-stage, stunning in Rajasthani attire.Jadeja, who has been banned from playing cricket for five years after being accused in the match-fixing scandal, wore a white "achkan" (long A-line coat) and a bright orange and red-striped "safa" (marriage turban), complete with an emerald brooch.Matching his sheen was bride Aditi, clad in a red and gold Rajasthani"lehnga" (long skirt), adorned with a huge nose-ring and minimal make-up."I'm too excited to feel anything," the bride kept gushing while the groom did nothing but smile, even as the celebrations went into the wee hours of morning. And friends said of the long time sweethearts, said, "Finally!"India Abroad News Service
