Mohali: Punjab on Thursday posted 247 for the loss of eight wickets on the first day of its Ranji semi-final match against Railways at the PCA Stadium. The Punjab team received an early jolt when opener Munish Sharma was caught at slips, with the hosts still to open its account, on the delivery of Railways star bowler Harvinder Singh. The 76 run-second wicket partnership of Ravneet Ricky and skipper Vikram Rathore, broken by Railways medium pacer Harvinder Singh, and a knock of 53 runs by Ankur Kakkar built some hope for the hosts. The third crucial wicket of Vikram Rathore fell at 91 on the delivery of S Bangar. The middle order batsmen Pankaj Dharmani (18), Reetinder Singh Sodhi (15) and Sanjay Mahajan too could not face the Railway's attack for long and were sent back to the pavilion in less than an hour. However, Sandeep put up some fight and stayed at the crease during the fag end for 80 minutes to add 28 runs. Gagandeep Singh (16) and Vineet Sharma (zero) were at the crease when the stumps were drawn for the day. UNI
