Laxman, Harbhajan, to play in Sheesh Mahal tournament

Lucknow: A galaxy of Test stars like J Srinath, V V S Laxman, Harbhajan Singh and many others will be seen in action during the forthcoming 51st All India Sheesh Mahal cricket tournament starting on April 13. The 40-over-a-side matches will be played simultaneously at the K D Singh Babu and Chowk Stadiums in Lucknow. Organising secretary of the tournament, M Askari Hasan said that this time, only six teams were participating which would be divided into two pools. They will play return league matches with other two teams of their respective pools. Two Highest points securing teams from each pool will qualify for the semi-finals. The final of the tournament will be held at the K D Singh Babu Stadium on April 23. The participating teams are Indian railways, Cricket association of Lucknow (CAL), Vidharbha cricket association in the pool ''A'' while pool ''B'' consisted of UPCA, Gujarat cricket association and Indian Airlines. Mr Hasan said that holders Indian railways will send their second line up for the tournament as they moved into the final of the Ranji Trophy, beating Punjab in the semi-finals. Mohd Kaif will lead the U P team. Commissioner, Lucknow division Saurabh Chandra will inaugurate the tournament.
