Melbourne: England-born fast bowler Duncan Spencer has tested positive for the banned steroid nandrolone, Australian Cricket Board (ACB) spokesman Brendan McClements said on Thursday.

Spencer, who played six Mercantile Mutual Cup games for West Australia last season after recovering from a serious back injury, will face an ACB tribunal hearing later on Thursday.

He faces a two year ban from cricket if found guilty.

Spencer, born in England, has played first class cricket for both Kent and Western Australia. He is the first Australian cricketer to fail a drugs test.
