Bangalore: Medium pacers Nitin Agarwal of Delhi and Rakesh Patel of Baroda joined the National Cricket Academy, taking the total number of trainees to 24.

NCA Head Coach Balwinder Singh Sandhu had called the two talented bowlers to the second batch keeping in mind the forthcoming Junior World Cup in New Zealand. He opined that the duo could emerge as replacements for Javagal Srinath, Zaheer Khan and Ajit Agarkar.

Already, Rakesh Patel is among the probables for the Zimbabwe tour and would be taking part in a brief camp, commencing from May 13.

Karnataka batsman Deepak Chougule and Baroda wicket-keeper Amit Mishra had already joined the training. However, Gautam Gambhir of Delhi and Swapnil Hazare of Mumbai are yet to report for the training, which commenced on May 1, due to examinations.

The NCA's second batch had commenced with 20 probables.
