ACB signs big sponsorship with airlines

Sydney: Ansett Airlines announced on Tuesday a new, multi-million-dollar five-year sponsorship deal with the Australian Cricket Board (ACB). The ACB said it was its largest sponsorship deal yet but would not say how much money Ansett was putting up. The deal will help replenish the Board's coffers after the ACB last week announced a new four-year pay deal which ACB chief executive Malcolm Speed said would make Australia's players the highest paid in the world. Speed said current ACB-contracted players could earn a maximum of Australian $ 625,000 ($ 315,000) annually, but from 2004 their pay could rise to one million Dollars. Ansett has been sponsoring Australian domestic Test cricket since 1996. The new deal runs from the 2001-02 to 2006-07 seasons. Extras:
