Lucknow: Title-holders South Zone beat runners-up Central Zone on the second day of the 10th all India junior inter-zonal Chandra Tripathi women's cricket tournament. Central Zone, which won its opening match against North Zone on Wednesday, lost its second encounter by seven wickets. Opting to bat first at the K. D. Singh Babu Stadium, Central Zone could muster only 56 runs, half of which came through extras. Six of its batsman could not open their account while Rajeshwari, who shone as an all-rounder on Wednesday, again proved her skill by becoming the top scorer (12) for her team. The whole of the team returned having faced only 22.1 overs. Chasing a victory target of 57 runs, South Zone touched the mark easily. However, Priti Dimiri drew first blood in the ninth over of the innings claiming the wicket of Savita Nirala while Rajeshwari scalped Karuna Jain in the tenth over. Mamata and international Mithali Raj fetched the winning run in the 20th over. South Zone collected two points with this win while Central Zone earned two points in two outings. South zone will meet East Zone on Friday.
