Lucknow: Aggressive half centuries by Rumeli Dhar and Soma Sisodia enabled East Zone to open its points tally on the penultimate day of the all India Chandra Tripathi junior inter-zonal women's cricket tournament beating North Zone by eight wickets, on Saturday at the K D Singh Babu Stadium. It was the first match of the tournament in which both the teams crossed the hundred mark. East Zone started its innings cautiously to chase a victory target of 112 runs but suffered a big jolt when Bobby Dutta was trapped lbw in the fourth over but after that Rumeli and Sisodia played aggressively, putting on 96 runs for the second- wicket. Rumeli holed out to Anureet for a well-judged catch by Asha at mid-wicket when her team was on the verge of victory, after scoring a well-compiled 52 facing 59 balls with the help of two boundaries. Sisodia remained unbeaten at the end of the game scoring exactly 50 runs (49 balls and 2 X4). Earlier North Zone scored 111 for the loss of nine wickets after playing its allotted quota of 35 overs. Its main scorers were Karishma 15, Pinki 15 and Anureet 11. The other batswomen failed to reach the double figure mark. Anureet claimed both the wickets of East Zone. East Zone will take on Central Zone at Chowk Stadium while fancied South Zone will face North Zone on Sunday on the final day of round robin league tournament.
