Bangalore: The Challenger series One-day tournament between India Seniors, India 'A', and India 'B' in January will be robbed of some of its sheen with master batsman Sachin Tendulkar and speedster Javagal Srinath opting out and Saurav Ganguly making himself available for just one match.

However, the selectors, who met in Bangalore on Sunday to pick the three teams, still named Ganguly as captain of the senior side. Selection committee chairman Chandu Borde said V V S Laxman will lead the team in matches where Ganguly would be absent.

Rahul Dravid has been named captain of India 'A' while Anil Kumble would lead the India B team.

The January 10 to 13 tournament for the N K P Salve Trophy will act as a selection trial for the Indian team to play the One-day series against England in January, Borde said.

He said the selectors had a discussion with coach John Wright on Saturday evening and advised him to address the area of fielding where a lot of improvement was needed.
