London: Top batsman Graham Thorpe has until Wednesday to decide whether he will make himself available for January's One-day tour of India, England's chairman of selectors David Graveney has said. The Surrey left-hander returned home from the three-match Test series in India early to deal with marital problems. And as yet there has been no suggestion from Thorpe that he is in the right frame of mind to resume his usual number four slot in the side. And Graveney on Tuesday admitted Thorpe would have to make up his mind on his availability for the India tour, if not the Test series in New Zealand for which England is due to depart in February, within the next 48 hours or so.He told BBC Radio 4, "As far as the One-dayers are concerned, that would probably be the right sort of time scale. If he was only available for Test matches that would give him a bit more time."It's obviously a very difficult time for him. All we've said to him is to give him the maximum support and time, but he also realises that we've got to be fair to everybody else and inform them in due time to go to India and New Zealand."Graveney meanwhile refused to say whether former skipper Alec Stewart, who on Sunday made himself available for the India One-day tour after deciding to opt out for the Test series, would be handed a return to the side.He added, "I'll certainly have a chat to him, he'll also be aware that when he made his original decision the teams were selected, but I'm pleased that he's changed his mind and it's something we'll have to talk about."
