Mumbai: In order to curb the recent onslaught of negativism adopted by bowlers, former England skipper Mike Gatting on Friday advocated that the matter be looked into afresh and if necessary, even new Laws should be introduced".

"The matter of running over the wicket into the rough should be looked into afresh by the International Cricket Council (ICC)," Gatting told reporters on the controversy generated by English left-arm spinner Ashley Giles during the just concluded series.

"If necessary, the ICC can even go for new Laws," Gatting, here to participate in 'Spirit of Cricket Festival' beginning from Saturday, said.

Gatting said the umpires should be "more firm" in dealing with thissort of problems in order to check the recurrence of such incidents.
