Johannesburg: The United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCBSA) has announced that South African national team wicket-keeper Mark Boucher had surgery to his left index finger to release scar tissue from his August 2000 knife injury."Boucher will be out of action for about four weeks, during which time hewill be receiving physiotherapy and rehabilitation," team physiotherapistCraig Smith said.Boucher suffered a deep cut while slicing biltong (a South African driedmeat delicacy) last year. During the recent West Indian tour, he deniedallegations that the injury was affecting his performance.All-rounder Justin Kemp also underwent surgery on June 4 along with Boucher to remove a bony growth from the base of his right hand. "The operation involved scraping off the knob of bone and he'll be out for about a month to allow the site to heal and for the inflammation to settle," added Smith. Both operations were performed by Sydney Biddulph, UCBSA's consultant hand specialist, in Johannesburg.IANS
