Durban: Fast-medium pace man Ottis Gibson is the latest West Indian professional to join the provincial KwaZulu-Natal cricket team, the Dolphins.Gibson has signed a one-year contract starting with the new season in October to help the side that has had a problem with pace attack in the past few seasons.Gibson, who is currently playing league cricket in England, has played for three other South African provincial teams, Border, Griqualand West and Gauteng, but was reportedly not happy with his last season at the Gauteng team, which ended up at the bottom of the first-class table."Ottis is a good professional who we believe will give us a lot on and off the field. In the four-day game he is capable of taking the new ball; in the One-dayers we'll use him when and where we choose. He can take the new ball up front; bowl in the middle or at the death. In both forms of cricket he is a more than useful batsman as well," KwaZulu-Natal's manager of professional cricket, Phil Russell, told the 'Daily News' here. The chief executive of the KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union, Cassim Docrat, said that Gibson's move still required the formal approval of the United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCBSA).Gibson, 32, has played two Tests and 15 One-day Internationals for the West Indies. He will join the ranks of other West Indians who have assisted the Dolphins, such as Hartley Alleyne, Collis King, Malcolm Marshall and current coach Eldine Baptiste.IANS
