Harare: Trevor Madondo, a rising star in Zimbabwean cricket, has died of malaria aged just 24, the Zimbabwe Cricket Union (ZCU) said on Tuesday.Madondo died of complications from cerebral malaria, after a three-week battle in a Harare hospital, the ZCU said. He was one of the few black cricketers to break into Zimbabwe's national side, and the first selected to play as a batsman for Zimbabwe - his three predecessors were pace bowlers."We learnt with great shock of the passing away of Trevor Madondo. He was a brave young man destined for greater things in cricket. We will miss him greatly," ZCU president Peter Chingoka said in a statement.Madondo made his Test debut in 1998 against Pakistan at Queens Sports Club in Zimbabwe's second city Bulawayo and averaged 30.00 in the series.Madondo's last Test for Zimbabwe was in December in New Zealand when he made his highest score, an unbeaten 74.
