London: The Australian women's cricket team added to the build-up to the men's Ashes battle by winning its first Test against England by an innings and 140 runs on Tuesday. The four-day game was finished just an hour after lunch on the third day when Australia bowled England out for 101 in its second innings at the picturesque Shenley ground, North of London. That was two runs fewer than England managed in its first innings. Australia's Cathryn Fitzpatrick, by common consent the fastest woman bowler in the world, finished with match figures of eight for 62, her second innings three for 33 following from a fine five for 29 first time around. Australia made 344 in its innings, Michelle Goszko the key batsman with an impressive 204. England captain Clare Connor reflected, "We do have a young side, but this was far worse than I expected." The second Test is at Leeds starting on July 6 but first there are three One-day games. It could yet be a long summer for Connor and her side.
