Karachi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) its participation in the redesigned Asia Cup being held in Pakistan next year, an official said on Thursday."Indian cricket officials confirmed their team will compete in the eighth Asia Cup in Pakistan in late August next year," ACC secretary Zakir Hussain Syed told AFP.The Indian government had banned bilateral cricket ties with Pakistan in protest at Islamabad's alleged support for cross-border terrorism in the disputed region of Kashmir.India refused a Test tour of Pakistan last year and pulled its team from the Sharjah tri-series in April.However, in response to a protest BCCI, the Indian government has allowed multilateral ties with Pakistan.Teams from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong will participate in the Limited Overs tournament in addition to Pakistan and India.Pakistan won the seventh Asia Cup in Dhaka, Bangladesh in June last year, beating Sri Lanka in the final. Pakistan beat India in the league phase. Since then the teams have not met in an international match."As per the new format six teams will be divided into two groups and the top two teams from each group will feature in the Super Four League," Syed said.The top two teams from the Super League will contest the final.UAE and Hong Kong qualified for the Asia Cup by virtue of finishng winners and runners-up in the ACC Trophy in UAE last year.
