London: Sussex' surges up the English County Championship second division table continued on Saturday inspired by paceman Jason Lewry taking seven wickets in Hampshire's second innings to give his side a crushing innings-and-113-run victory. The 30-year-old, who took six for 37 in the first innings, put Sussex within sight of victory in only his first over as he took a hat-trick including former England batsman Robin Smith to leave their opponents shell shocked on one for three.Lewry, ably abetted by James Kirtley, added another four scalps to his burgeoning tally to rattle Hampshire out for 108. Christopher Tremlett (10) and England paceman Alan Mullally (17) tried to offer former England international spinner Shaun Udal, who finished unbeaten on 40, some support - but it was always going to be Lewry's day as he finished with career-best match figures of 13 for 79.Earlier, Sussex had been dismissed for 302 thanks to a last-wicket stand of 66 between last man Billy Taylor (10) and Michael Yardy, who finished 87 not out.Somerset gained the only other decisive result on a weather-affected day as they completed an innings win over Essex in the first division to move into second place.Steffan Jones claimed the final two wickets after the visitors had resumed the second innings on 189 for eight, sending back former England duo Mark Ilott (34) and Peter Such (4) as Essex was bowled out for 225.That gave Somerset victory by an innings and 60 runs, while its maximum 20 points made them the nearest challengers to runaway championship leaders Yorkshire.
