Pune: "It was an utterly disappointing performance," reacted Selection Committee chairman Chandu Borde on the Indian team's defeat in the final of the tri-nation Limited Overs series against the West Indies on Saturday. While talking to UNI here on Sunday, Mr Borde said that it was very difficult to understand the reason for the defeat, since the team had remained unbeaten in four One-dayers earlier and had defeated the West Indies twice, he added. From the body language and mental attitude of the players, it was quite evident that they lost the match, allowing the West Indies to score 290 runs. Going by past record, the Indians have always proved brittle despite having world-class batting strength, Mr Borde said.Mr Borde also complimented the West Indians who, despite the absence of world-class players like Brian Lara and fast-medium bowler Cuffy, played to a plan and emerged successful. When asked if there would be any changes in the team for the ensuing tri-nation series to be played in Sri Lanka from July 18, Mr Borde said that the selection panel would be meeting on Monday in Mumbai to select the Indian team for the Sri Lanka tour. "We will be taking stock of things while finalising the Indian team," he said, adding that there could be some changes "but it also depends on my other colleagues". UNI
