Johannesburg: South Africa's cricket administrators have denied there is any rift between the Board and the 2003 Cricket World Cup Committee (CWC).The denial by officials of the United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCBSA) and the CWC comes in the wake of media speculation that there was tension between the two after CWC's Managing Director Ali Bacher and Communications Manager Rodney Hartman failed to attend a UCBSA transformation seminar last weekend. The high-profile seminar had been called to review the activities of theUCBSA and plan for its transformation to include the majority of SouthAfricans in the sport, which has traditionally seen mainly white players and spectators. The two officials were in Zimbabwe, watching India play there, and also to look at the venues and facilities in that country. They announced after their return that Zimbabwe would host some 2003 World Cup matches.UCBSA chief executive Gerald Majola, who took over from Bacher late last year, said he was "disappointed" that Bacher could not be at the seminar, even after suggestions to him to postpone the Zimbabwe visit. But Bacher said it was the last opportunity for him to visit Zimbabwe before the venues and fixtures for the 2003 World Cup were finalised in September.Bacher and Majola have reportedly agreed that the two bodies needed to work closely together to ensure a "flawless" World Cup. They have set up a weekly meeting system to ensure proper communication between the two bodies, which operate from different offices and with different staff.IANS
