Karachi: Former Test bowler Aqib Javed has been appointed to Pakistan's national selection panel but the country is still without a head coach just weeks away from a vital clash with India, officials said on Thursday.[an error occurred while processing this directive]A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) meeting put off a decision on who will replace part-time coach Richard Pybus, who turned down an offer to take the job on a long-term basis earlier this month.Pakistan has set its sights on either former South African captain Kepler Wessels or Surrey's Keith Medlycott, but it seems the Board needs more time to clinch a deal. But time is running out, with Pakistan due to face Bangladesh and arch rival India in Asian Test Championship matches starting next month.New Zealand will play three Tests and as many One-dayers in Pakistan after the Asian championship.Javed, 28, played the last of his 22 Tests for Pakistan in 1998-99 and will be part of a four-member selection team, the PCB said at the conclusion of a two-day Board meeting. He was the first player ever to be suspended on charges of violating the International Cricket Council's code of conduct when he dissented before an umpire in Napier, New Zealand, in 1992-93. Javed was banned for the following limited overs international. Former Test wicket-keeper and captain Wasim Bari was retained as chief selector. He will serve the one-year term on an honorary basis while the three other selectors, including former Test openers Mohsin Khan and Shafiq Ahmed, will become the first professional selectors in Pakistan.
