Bangalore: Sri Lanka carved an amazing come-from-behind victory when it registered a five-wicket victory against New Zealand at the R Premadasa Stadium on Wednesday in the fourth match of the Coca Cola triangular series being played in Colombo. Finding itself on 27 for four, chasing 237, Sri Lanka engineered a remarkable recovery. Once it was within striking range, it blasted its way to an astounding win.It was first, the pair of Atapattu and Arnold, who put on 109 runs for the fifth wicket, and then Suresh Perera who has been a revelation with the bat along with Arnold that turned the match completely in favour of Sri Lanka with an unfinished 104-run stand. In Suresh Perera, Sri Lanka has definitely found a gem. The poise with which the youngster approached the task on hand was quite simply quintessential. He very much is in the making of a quality all-rounder if natured well, which Im sure the Sri Lankans will given the way the Sri Lankans have nurtured Marvan Atapattu. The New Zealanders wilted towards the death under the Lankan assault. They gave away crucial boundaries through misfields, which put pressure on their bowlers. Moreover the Black Caps did not have the firepower in their armoury to halt the Sri Lankans. The Black Caps had to learn the bitter lesson of never taking things as done, especially when Sri Lankans are chasing, no matter how strong a position they find themselves in. They, however, missed the services of Dion Nash and their skipper Stephen Fleming. The Sri Lankans also broke the jinx of winning a match while chasing. The three previous matches had been lost by teams that batted second.Arnold was declared man-of-the-match for his knock of 91. Sri Lanka now stays on top of the table with six points, followed by New Zealand with one and India on zero. India takes on New Zealand on Thursday in the fifth match of the tournament.
