Hisar: Hisar police has arrested nine persons involved in speculation over the cricket match between India and New Zealand played in Sri Lanka on Thursday. Three colour TV sets and three mobile phones were seized in raids at three different places in the city. Police said when they learnt that e-mail and mobile phones were being used for betting in Vijay Nagar, Rishi Nagar and Devi Bhawan, they rushed to these places and nabbed the speculators red-handed.Police identified the arrested accused as Raj Kumar, Deepen, Vinay Kumar, Atam Parkash, Vinod Kumar, Deep, Lucky, Bhagwati Prasad and Suresh alias Kalia. Police said Rs 6300 was also recovered from them. They were staking through mobile phones while witnessing the match on television. The tentative amount of stakes was estimated at about Rs 15 lakh, said the police. Police have stepped up the vigil as heavy betting is expected during the final match between India and Sri Lanka.
