Chennai: For the first time in the history of Indian cricket, a foreign team comprising 13 players, which has done duty for New Zealand, would be competing in a domestic tournament. [an error occurred while processing this directive]The traditional Buchi Babu memorial cricket tournament, said to be the lung opener for the state teams before the national Ranji Trophy season starts, has attracted a New Zealand 'A' team, with 13 of its 14-member squad having represented the country, besides the state squads.Addressing a press meet on Saturday, Ashok Kumbhat, secretary Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), said the tournament, sponsored by MRF for the fifth year in succession, would have about 50 players registered with the TNCA figuring in four teams.Teams from National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bangalore, last year Ranji Trophy finalists, Indian Railways, Maharashtra Mumbai Cricket Association (MMCA), All India Banks, Indian Airlines, Karnataka XI and Bengal XI besides ONGC would be vying for honours in the Rs 5 lakh prize money tournament. T A Sekar, a national selection committee member, said "Buchi Babu tournament always provides a platform for youngsters to prove their mettle and get into their state teams."
