Chennai: Ranji Trophy finalist, Indian Railways inflicted a crushing defeat on Maharashtra by an innings and 120 runs thanks to a superb 221 by Yera Goud and100 by Santosh Sahu, to progress to the last eight in the MRF Buchi Babu Memorial cricket tournament on Tuesday.[an error occurred while processing this directive]In another match, All India Associated Banks made it to the quarter-finals by virtue of its first innings lead over Tamil Nadu District XI. Replying to Bank's first innings score of 344 all out, the hosts made 238 all out. Bank was 105 for one in 33 overs when the match ended in a draw. Daniel Manohar (50-6x4) and J P Yadav (38 2x4) batted well for Bankmen in the second knock. Bankmen will await winner of Jolly Rovers and National Indian Airlines, while Railways take on National Cricket Academy (NCA) in the quarter-finals.Resuming at its overnight 365 for four on the third and final day on Tuesday, Railways declared its first innings at 527 for nine in 131.5 overs. Karnataka batsman Yera Goud (157 not out overnight) continued his good work and added 200 runs with Sahu for the fifth wicket in 208 minutes off 242 balls. Goud occupied the crease for 445 minutes and hit 26 fours and four sixes while Sahu scored an exact 100 (13 fours and a six). Leg spinner Mander sane claimed 4 for 100. Maharashtra, who scored 267 in the first innings, lost quick wickets in its second knock and was dismissed for 140. Jaideep Narse (25), Ranjith Khirid (58) and Abhijit Kale (24) were the main scorers.Railway's off spinner Sanjay Satpathy took seven for 52 to wrap up the match. PTI
