Chennai: Mumbai restricted New Zealand Cricket Academy (NZCA), boasting of players having represented the country, to 277 for nine in 101 overs while Karnataka was in a good position scoring 322 for 7 in 99 overs against MAC-TNCA XI in quarter-final matches of the MRF-Buchi Babu memorial cricket tournament on Thursday.[an error occurred while processing this directive]In other matches, Bengal scored 118 for 5 in 40 overs in reply to ONGC's first innings of 188 all out in 54.3 overs. MRF was 65 for 2 in 20 overs replying to Hyderabad's first innings score of 256 all out in 74.2 overs. The highlight of the match was a superb haul of six for 68 by left arm spinner Bablu Kumar and four for 68 by Aashish Kapoor. For Hyderabad, openers Aravind Shetty (33) and Nandakishore (44) put on 59 runs for the first wicket before they started losing wickets. Then Shivaji Yadav (56) and Ibrahim Khaleel (50) put on 102 runs for the eighth wicket to bail out Hyderabad, which was 140 for seven at one stage. In the Mumbai-NZ Cricket Academy match, the Kiwis were off to a good start with the second wicket pair of Mathew Horne and Mathew Bell putting on 144 runs in 47.4 overs, but then they collapsed against the left arm spin of Rajesh Pawarwho claimed four for 70 and medium pacer Paras Mhambrey two for 46.Opener Bell made 47 (five fours) and Horne went on to make a fine 111 (20x4). L Marshall (33, 5x4) was the only other player who resisted the attack to some extent. Opting to bat first, ONGC was in deep trouble as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Sandeep Sharma (29) and Virender Sehwag (26, 6x4), Rizwan Shamshad (30), and Amit Sharma 32 (6x4) were the main scorers.In reply, Bengal too lost early wickets and except for Rohan Gavaskar (44, 3x4, 2x6) and Ritesh Jaiswal (22), others fell cheaply.
