Karachi: Opener Mehrab Hossain and former captain Akram Khan hit defiant half centuries to rescue Bangaldesh to a draw in its side game against a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) XI on the third and final day here on Sunday.[an error occurred while processing this directive]Hossain hit a resolute 72 while Khan made a fighting 53 to help Bangladesh score 239-9 when both captains agreed to finish the match.Bangladesh and Pakistan play their first ever Test in Multan from August 29, which also kicks off the Asian Test Championship, which has been marred by India's withdrawal.Bangladesh made 161 in its first innings while the PCB XI replied with 268 with a century from Taufiq Umer who won a Test call for Multan. "This side game has served the preparation purpose to some extent although I was not pleased with the team's batting in the first innings," Bangladesh's Australian coach Trevor Chappell said."I am happy that the batsmen put their heads down in the second innings which is a positive for me."Needing 77 to avoid an innings defeat, Bangladesh took its overnight score of 30-1 to 109-3 at lunch. Hossain added 77 runs for the second wicket with Habibul Bashar who made 33.The PCB XI, comprised of Pakistan hopefuls, dropped as many as four catches to allow the tourists to escape defeat.Hossain hit six boundaries during his 223-minute stay at the crease while Khan punched five fours and a six in his 172-minute innings. Wicket-keeper Khaled Masud kept the PCB XI bowlers at bay for another 100 minutes with a patient 27. Off spinner Shoaib Malik took 3-77.AFP
