New Delhi: An Indian court jailed former Test cricketer Yograj Singh for failing to turn up as a witness in a murder trial, reports said on Thursday.[an error occurred while processing this directive]Yograj, one of the main witnesses in the high-profile trial of the murder of model Jessica Lal in New Delhi in 1999, failed to present himself in court on three occasions.Slapped with non-bailable warrants, Yograj finally appeared in court on Wednesday and the judge promptly remanded him to Tihar jail in the Indian capital for an unspecified term on contempt charges.Yograj, father of current Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, pleaded he was being treated for arthritis and could not attend court, but the judge ruled the condition was not so serious that he had to stay away.The former international is free to apply for bail. Yograj, who played one Test during the 1981 tour of Australia and New Zealand, is a friend of the main accused Manu Sharma, a politician's son who allegedly shot Lal dead after she refused to serve him drinks at an illegal bar where she worked as a celebrity barmaid.
