Colombo: Sri Lanka on Saturday pulled out of a tour of Pakistan because of concerns over security in the event of US attacks against neighbouring Afghanistan.
The Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka (BCCSL), which had agreed to send a team to play three One-day Internationals in Pakistan after New Zealand cancelled its tour, said it had changed its mind after discussions with cricket chiefs in Pakistan. "We requested the Pakistan Cricket Board to make arrangements to evacuate our players by air, should the need have arisen," the BCCSL said in a statement. "However, despite the efforts of the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board), it was not possible to arrange the logistics for this (emergency air evacuation)." The BCCSL said the team would meet Pakistan and Zimbabwe in the Sharjah One-day tournament in the United Arab Emirates from October 26.
