Kolkata: The Indian cricket team, touring South Africa, has not asked for any reinforcement following its defeat at the hands of the home side in the tri-series opener, BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya said on Tuesday.
"Neither the Board secretary nor I have received any request from the team management for any reinforcement," Dalmiya told PTI in Kolkata. Dalmiya was reacting to an earlier report that the team management requested medium pacer Zaheer Khan be sent to South Africa after the poor performance by Indian bowlers in the opening tie. India lost the opening match to South Africa despite posting a handsome total of 279. The Board president said that he also spoke to BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah in this regard. In case such a request comes from the team management, the national selectors would consider it. Incidentally, Shah said on Monday that Zaheer Khan had to produce a fitness certificate before being considered for joining the Indian team in South Africa, which led to the confusion. The secretary, however, had not confirmed about the request for reinforcement from the team management.
