Mumbai: Middle order batsman V V S Laxman would reinforce the Indian cricket team in the on-going triangular series in South Africa, while four players - Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Sadagopan Ramesh and Hemang Badani - would undergo fitness tests at the Cricket Club of India on October 23. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Niranjan Shah said that the Indian team management in South Africa had asked for Laxman to reinforce the team specially after their shocking defeat at the hands of Kenya on October 17 and as Laxman is sure to make it to the Test squad we decided to send him on October 22 so that he can play the last two or three One-day ties. "The Indian selectors would also meet on October 23 afternoon at the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to pick the Test team which would play three Test matches against South Africa next month," Shah added. "Sports medicine expert and the board doctor Dr Anant Joshi would hold fitness test for the four players who are vying for Test slots," Shah said. Left-arm seamers Khan (Baroda) and Nehra (Delhi) missed the triangular series due to tissue inflammation and groin injury respectively, while Tamil Nadu's Badani injured himself while playing in Moin-ud-Dowlla tournament at Hyderabad after being named as replacement for Laxman. Tamil Nadu opening batsman Ramesh was not considered for One-day squad but will have to go through the fitness test arranged by the board. Extras:
