TN well placed against CDA in Gopalan trophy

Chennai: Tamil Nadu is close to winning the M J Gopalan Trophy with an overall lead of 354 runs against Colombo District Association (CDA) now in progress on Sunday.
At close on the penultimate day of their four-day match, hosts were 154 for three in 51 overs in their second innings after skittling out Colombo for 198 all out in its innings. When stumps were drawn, S Sriram (79) and S Sharath (4) were at the crease. CDA, which was 97 for five overnight, was helped by Dilshan Tilakaratne (30), Tilan Samaraweera (31) and Gayan Wijekoon (24). Left-handed medium pacer, L Balaji was at his best having returned figures of 16-10-16-4 and was ably assisted by spinner Ramkumar (four for 62) and Aashish Kapoor (two for 61). Tamil Nadu in its second innings, lost opener Suresh early but Sriram and Hemanth Kumar batted well adding 111 runs for the second wicket in 35.2 overs before the latter was bowled by Dilshan for 49. Sriram, the first innings centurian, made his 79 runs with the help of eight fours facing 152 balls.
