Bangalore: Artistic batsman of yesteryears G R Viswanth would head the newly created Karnataka Cricket Academy (KCA), which is aimed at spotting budding talent in moffusil areas of the state and grooming them.
|According to president of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) K M Ramprasad, the Academy would be officially inaugurated on November 1. "We have already identified some 13 moffusil centres," he told PTI in Bangalore on Saturday. "KSCA has decided to extend a grant of Rs 25 lakh every year to the Academy." Under the Academy's coaching programme, two or three talented boys from each moffusil centre are picked up and then trained by a coach from Bangalore and another from there itself," Ramprasad said. As its chairman, Viswanth, who enthralled cricket audiences in his hey days and was recently elected KSCA vice-president, would conduct the Academy's proceedings, KSCA said. Extras:|
