New Delhi: New Zealand has cancelled its women's cricket team's One-month tour of India scheduled to start at the end of November, Women's Cricket Association of India (WCAI) said on Thursday.
A communication received by the WCAI from New Zealand Cricket Inc. (NZCI) said the tour stood cancelled because of the very high threat perception in the region as the US led military strikes continue in neighbouring Afghanistan. "Though India is not involved in the conflict we feel that the risk is too high," said the letter sent by Martin Snedden, New Zealand Cricket chief executive. "We are preparing to invite them again in the first week of February 2002," said Anuradha Dutt, WCAI secretary. The New Zealand team was scheduled to land on the 23rd of November and play three practice games, five One-day Internationals and a Test in Dhanbad. The Indian eves next assignment is at home against England in the first week of January 2002.
