Tendulkar says he was cleaning the ball

This was disclosed by former India captain Ravi Shastri who reacted angrily to the punishment meted out to the master batsman on the charge of ball tampering. "He is just cleaning whatever grass there is," Shastri said referring to the visual showing Tendulkar running his nails through the seam of the ball. "And that is the explanation he has given to the umpires," he said. "How is that going to affect how the ball behaves," he asked. Shastri also pointed out that the three overs, during which Tendulkar was said to have tampered with the ball, had been bowled just before lunch and had the match-referee taken note of it at that time he would have definitely informed the umpires about it. "It was Sachin Tendulkar who bowled the first over after lunch on that day. Would not the umpires have told Tendulkar something if they had been informed by the match- referee?" he asked. Extras:
