Islamabad: Even as the Indian and South African Cricket Boards' stand-off with the International Cricket Council continued, Pakistan was also headed for a showdown with the game's governing body, with its panel ofadvisors clearing the bowling action of speedster Shoaib Akhtar.[an error occurred while processing this directive]After the ground umpires at the recent triangular One-day series in Sharjah had reported Shoaib for suspect action, sending the bowler to stage two of the ICC procedures for dealing with such cases, ICC had appointed former West Indian great Michael Holding to act as a counsellor to the Pakistani bowler. But PCB rejected the appointment and instead referred the video footage of Shoaib's bowling at Sharjah to an expert committee comprising former Test players, which on Sunday cleared the speedster's action.PCB sources here on Monday said that the panel, comprising Iqbal Sikander, Ejaz Faquih and Mohsin Kamal and assisted by three doctors, certified that 'legally' there was nothing wrong with Shoaib's action. The panel agreed with the report of experts from the bio-mechanical department of the University of Western Australia, who had studied Shoaib's action when the bowler was reported on the New Zealand tour earlier this year and concluded that he suffered from a physical abnormality called hypermobility, which created the apparent anomaly in his action, the sourcessaid.
