Adelaide: Western Australia recorded its first outright Sheffield Shield win this season when it beat South Australia by 76 runs at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday.[an error occurred while processing this directive]Former Test fast bowler Matt Nicholson was named man-of-the-match after completing his second four-wicket haul in a clash dominated by the bowlers.Starting the final day at 52 for four, needing to reach 231 to win the game, South Australia lost Brad Young in the first over of the day without adding to the score. Ben Higgins went nine runs later as the home team slumped to 61 for six. Wicket-keeper Graham Manou and all-rounder Mike Smith provided the only stern resistance, forging a rapid 68-run seventh wicket partnership, with Manou top scoring with 43 from 38 balls. But his aggression cost him his wicket when he skied a sweep shot in attempting to loft a Brad Hogg delivery over mid-wicket, giving wicket-keeper Ryan Campbell an easy catch. That virtually ended the South Australian fight back, with the last three wickets falling cheaply. Western Australian left-arm spinner Brad Oldroyd was unable to join the celebrations after he was knocked unconscious and taken from the ground on a stretcher after an accidental collision with South Australian batsman Peter McIntyre just before lunch.McIntyre was running between wickets while Oldroyd was attempting to get back to the stumps as the pair clashed heads. Oldroyd was taken to hospital with concussion, but was not believed to have suffered serious injury.
