Kannur (Kerala): Some of the country's prominent cricketers, including those of yesteryears, will be seen in action at the Municipal Stadium Thalassery, which gears up to celebrate cricket's bicentenary in March.
|"Thalassery, one of the breeding grounds of cricket in the country, is arranging the game's bicentenary celebrations in a grand manner and former and present Test players will be seen in action here," Kannur District Cricket Association secretary P V Sirajuddin said. Household names like Prasanna, Venkatraghavan, Srinath, Kumble and Dravid were being invited for an exhibition match, he said, adding a Sri Lankan team, comprising all- time greats like Arjuna Ranatunga and Aravinda De Silva, was also likely to visit here. The association, with the support of the state government was also vying for live coverage of the celebrations by Doordarshan to attract giant sponsors to make the event a memorable one, he said. |
