Mohali: Make shift opener Deep Dasgupta justified the faith reposed in him to remain unbeaten on 71 as India reached 150 for two at tea on the second day of the first Test on Tuesday. Both opener Deep Dasgupta and Rahul Dravid played with utmost caution. They played the patient game to a nicety and never embarked on any risk.The English bowlers failed to get any help from the wicket, which was getting slower by the day. The Indians, who had added 55 runs in 30 overs in the first session, scored 71 runs off 29 overs in the second session without losing any wicket.India lost the wicket of night watchman Anil Kumble to debutant off spinner Richard Dawson in the morning session. Anil Kumble tried to cut Dawson and was well taken by debutant wicket-keeper James Foster.Kumble scored 37 runs with four hits to the fence and added 54 runs for the second wicket.Wicket-keeper Deep Dasgupta, who has opted to open the innings, played a very patient knock as the English bowlers failed to make any impression. Though the scoring rate was very slow, the Indians managed to keep their wickets intact.
